After experimenting with various media over the past 15 years, Joy Patrice O'Brien fell in love with collage in 2006. As an avid collector of vintage fabric, books and ephemera, Joy Patrice's mixed-media work is cut and paste using found and discarded items. Her most recent works incorporate materials such as tintype portraits, maps, scraps of antique lace, and wallpaper samples from 1932.
Joy Patrice’s fascination with the principles of memory is explored through varying perceptions of balance, imperfection and contextual distortion of an objects anticipated meaning. Her work touches on a collective unconscious by utilizing familiar archetypal imagery reminiscent of childhood, nature and American history.
Joy Patrice's work has been exhibited at Hover Craft (2012), Design Within Reach (2006) and Made in Milwaukee (2011, 2008, 2007). She has been actively working in the arts since 2001. Joy Patrice is a wife, mother and graphic designer living and working in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
